This position executes the content strategy for the organization. The Editor & Content Writer will research potential subject matter and assist the Vice President in developing, maintaining and upgrading editorial direction for all BOMA communication mediums, including deep dives, "how to" playbooks, articles, eNewsletters, and other content in fulfillment of the overall content strategy. The position oversees editorial content and budget, conducts research, conducts interviews, writes and copy edits articles and other content, manages internal and external authors and provides project management for various communications vehicles. Additionally, the position creates speeches and talking points for BOMA leadership.
Key responsibilities:
Research
BOMA publications are relevant and reflect the latest research, trends, benchmarking data, and issues impacting the commercial real estate industry.
As a result of interviewing and talking with professionals in the field and attending conferences and networking events, BOMA publications reflect current trends.
Findings are shared with team members and other stakeholders so they are aware of and kept up to date on the latest research, trends, benchmarking data, and issues impacting the commercial real estate Industry.
Content Development
BOMA is viewed as the one-stop resource for convenient, reliable, relevant content with diverse perspectives on a wide array of topics affecting commercial real estate through multiple vehicles including deep dive publications, playbooks, articles, eNewsletters, the BOMA website and Knowledge Center.
Customers are easily able to engage with BOMA because they are able to find the content they need when they need it.
BOMA publications are published on schedule with content at the appropriate audience level, resulting in increased engagement and leads.
The editorial process for BOMA’s communication vehicles is effectively managed, including giving direction and assigning articles to freelance writers, researching and writing content, editing and submitted content to maintain BOMA’s voice and style, and securing copy for submission, resulting in compelling content delivered on time that meets revenue targets.
Internal customers, local BOMA association executives, and other stakeholders have the information, including visibility into the editorial calendar and content, to effectively share, promote, and inform members and customers of BOMA content.
Communications and marketing team members have the content they need to support effective marketing and lead generation campaigns.
Media Relations
A media list is current, available, and media is proactively contacted with relevant BOMA research and articles.
Media receive timely, accurate, relevant responses to inquiries and appropriate spokespeople to represent BOMA.
Talking points for key products and/or key media campaigns are developed, compelling, and disseminated to appropriate people.
Press releases are timely, relevant, and disseminated to targeted trade and business media resulting in increased media coverage.
Team members have background materials, research, and speeches to ensure BOMA leadership is prepared for interviews with journalists and presentations at BOMA and industry events resulting in increased awareness of BOMA and its offerings.
BOMA bylined articles are developed from concept to research and written or outsourced effectively for publication by industry publications and national press outlets resulting in earned media.
A compelling and effective State of the Industry address at BOMA’s annual conference is delivered by partnering with the President & Chief Operating Officer to outline, draft and, in coordination with the annual conference production team, create audiovisual materials.
Publishing, Administration and Other Duties
eNewsletters, including those developed by partners, are compelling, delivered on time, and cause members, customers, and prospects to engage with BOMA.
Effectively prepares for, influences and supports volunteer committees as assigned. As a result, the committees are run smoothly, effectively and efficiently. The committees stay on target and in alignment with BOMA strategic objectives.
Procedures are written and continue to be maintained and updated in an accurate and timely manner.
BOMA local associations receive effective communications-related counsel upon request.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Vice President
Qualifications:
A minimum of three years of experience creating content for and managing the communications function of a trade association or non-profit, or relevant experience in a communications or PR firm.
Demonstrated experience with researching, interviewing, writing, and editing for both print and digital content.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that involves working on multiple content projects simultaneously.
Strong project management skills.
Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud apps, Hootsuite, and AP Style is a plus but not required.
Bachelor’s degree
Knowledge of AP Style preferred.
BOMA International is comprised of passionate team members who do great work for our members each day, while still finding opportunities to have fun and support one another. You will travel a small number of times each year to BOMA conferences and regional events. Because of the office building industry we represent, we operate in a hybrid work schedule where you come into our Downtown DC office (near Metro) three days per week while working from home two days per week. Accordingly, only DC area candidates, or candidates willing to relocate to the DC area, will be considered.
