The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is recruiting an Account Manager, Business Development. The Account Manager, Business Development is responsible for managing and growing productive relationships with AAPS’ external partners. The Account Manager is a match-maker who identifies each partner’s unique needs in brand recognition, marketing, business development, specialized training, and workforce development, and then helps the partner see how they can use AAPS to fulfill those needs. The Account Manager supports the development of custom packages and ensures processing of contracts, invoices, etc. The Account Manager has extensive expertise in sales/business development practices in a pharma/medical/healthcare, and maintains a deep understanding of AAPS programs and their operations, including membership, sustaining partner programs, education programs, the National Biotechnology Conference (NBC), and PharmSci 360. The Account Manager learns about the research areas of various partners, and continually grows their knowledge of pharmaceutical science disciplines. The Account Manager also maintains their understanding of current pharmaceutical market conditions. The Account Manager is a team-player who maintains strong relationships with AAPS’ operations and finance teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Business Development (90%)
Meet annual goals established in AAPS’ business plan
Schedule and attend partner meetings
Prepare for and attend relevant trade shows and conferences, including booth-work when necessary
Propose strategic initiatives to grow AAPS’ business and non-dues revenue domestically & internationally
Develop and implement a plan that grows AAPS’ relationships with partnering organizations using AAPS’ programs and services
Collaborate with other members of AAPS’ staff to align partners’ goals with AAPS’ capabilities and to identify value propositions that will excite partners
Be the face of AAPS to partners
Serve as liaison to the AAPS Business Advisory Group
Assist in the development and management of the Business Development Department budget
Prepare Business Development reports and dashboards
Ensure the integrity and functionality of the AAPS’ HubSpot CRM database in the support of Business Development sales and engagement
Interface effectively with all other AAPS departments to ensures that all interfacing staff are properly informed and able to meet the needs of Partners related to events, products, and services
Program Development (10%)
Understand the specific program needs of partners through careful listening and assessment of the pharmaceutical market
Work collaboratively with the Operations Team to address clients’ need for short courses, workshops, and training programs; assist in development of said programming to ensure programming is to specification; manage clients’ expectations for programming
Manage resources and supervise processes to create a seamless experience for partners throughout engagement with AAPS’ programming
Qualifications
Proven sales experience and success, preferably in a pharma/medical/healthcare environment.
Proven client service and support skills and the ability to work with a variety of internal and external customers.
Demonstrated success in managing clients, developing pipelines, and growing revenue.
Experience with maintaining a CRM/database and ensuring data integrity.
Strong business acumen and the ability to recognize a good value proposition and identify needs.
Proven project management skills.
Proven time management skills and the ability to multitask.
Proven ability to work well with a team.
Proven success in remaining calm in high stress situations.
Strong commitment to professional ethics.
Technical degree in life science or training in the pharmaceutical space preferred.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
A minimum of three years successfully managing sales/business development engagements in either a non-profit or for-profit environment required.
Business Development experience with an Association, specifically in STEM or the Life Science field.
Experience with a CRM/database maintenance required – experience with HubSpot CRM preferred.
Business development experience in the drug discovery/development/delivery area and associated industries preferred.
Experience with a volunteer-based, membership-driven, non-profit organization preferred.
Experience with a global client base preferred.
CAE or industry specific certification preferred.
Physical Demands
Majority of work is performed on a personal computer sitting at a desk for long periods of time throughout the day. May be expected to lift boxes up to 25 pounds. Standing for long periods of time and walking at meetings is required. Ability to remain professional in stressful situations is critical.
Work Environment
AAPS is a fully remote office. Travel to AAPS events, to meet with corporate clients, and to represent AAPS as needed is required in this role. Travel to PharmSci 360 and various partner meetings and conferences throughout the year will be required. Travel could be up to 25%.
