The Vice President, Innovation Strategy will lead strategy aspects of the Office of Innovation’s work, including market outreach and member engagement. They will act as an internal consultant, identifying innovation needs and bringing creative problem solving, market research, and data-driven analyses to meet them. They will engage with the fintech market to track key trends and developments and provide banks market insight they need to innovate.
Member Engagement: Manage select innovation councils and committees, including bank recruitment, logistics, and content/agenda development. Develop and implement strategy for innovation-related communications to members and other external stakeholders; work with PR, marketing, and member engagement teams to ensure cohesive plan and execution. Present thought leadership and market insights to c-suite audiences through written format and presentations.
Fintech Engagement: Develop and implement a strategy, possibly including an incubator or innovation lab, to engage with the fintech community (start up and mature). Communicate bank needs and priorities, as well as regulatory considerations to promote responsible innovation that complements the banking industry.
Thought Leadership: Work with banks and innovative technology companies to identify relevant trends and the technologies and innovations that banks need to remain competitive in a digital economy. Lead OOI work to research and draft relevant reports, including ecosystem maps, designed to provide banks and policymakers deep understanding of specific market opportunities (ie: AI, Regtech, Crypto). These reports will include market overview, vendor landscapes, implementation considerations, and case studies.
Relationships: Build relationships with banks, innovation labs, startups, and venture capital firms who are leading in financial innovation. Create opportunities to engage and communicate with the industry that positions ABA as a leader in innovation. Work with teams across ABA, particularly the Industry Provider Network, to execute on strategy and ensure alignment.
Venture Investments: Support ABA’s venture investment strategy by identifying opportunities for strategic venture capital investments that signal opportunities for the industry as well as revenue opportunities for ABA.
• Bachelor’s degree in related field (economics, finance, business).
• 12+ years proven expertise in related industries (banking, fintech, consulting, venture capital).
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders to take an idea from concept through implementation; ability to edify deliverable’s quantifiable impact to business.
• Experience researching and drafting consulting-style reports and presentations to concisely convey complex topics to peer and executive audiences.
• Self-driven with record of working in the gray and developing something new to an organization.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas through speech, writing and presentations.
• Strong record of leadership, management experience.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Team oriented mindset.
• Consulting, venture capital, or investment banking experience.
