Position: President
Reports to: Board of Directors Date: 2022
Role Description:
The role of the President is to assure the continued health and long-term viability
of the organization. Working with the Board of Directors, the President serves to
establish an appropriate strategic direction for the organization, provide leadership
in implementing appropriate strategic initiatives, and provide management and
oversight of all organizational resources.
As such, major elements of this role include:
1. Providing appropriate direction and operational support to the Board and its
designated committees
2. Assuring effective communication between the Board, designated
committees, and members of the CSA staff.
3. Developing systems and practices to assure transparency in all association related matters.
4. Managing the human resources of the CSA staff to ensure that necessary
work is done well and done in a manner that is both efficient and effective.
5. Providing leadership and performance management to CSA staff
professionals.
6. Managing all operational aspects of the association including:
a. Adhering to organizational policies and by-laws
b. Assuring compliance with all government and legal regulations
relating to the functioning of the organization and related personnel
c. Stewardship of all CSA operational funds to include budget
development, management, audit and control procedures
d. Stewardship of all CSA property including all aspects of building
maintenance and property control
e. Determining appropriate goals and objectives for CSA staff and
setting performance expectations to achieve the work of the
organization
7. Serving as the “face” and “voice” of the association to both membership and
appropriate external audiences, including government relations as necessary.
8. Maintaining and implementing an appropriate PR plan to establish and
perpetuate a positive image for the association and its membership.
9. Serving as the chief steward and operating officer for the Worker’s
Compensation Self-Insured Fund.
Dimensions:
This position is based in the CSA home office.
The position requires close cooperation and interaction with the Association’s
Board of Directors and the membership in general. Estimated travel for this
position is 70%. The position is responsible for an annual budget of
approximately $1.5 million.
Nature of the Position
Staff, manage, and administer all CSA professional positions
* Serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the SIF
* Serve as chief liaison to the CSA Board of Directors
* Lead efforts to identify and define strategic direction for the organization;
develop and implement programs to reach identified organizational
objectives
* Serve as CSA representative at appropriate local, regional, and national
meetings
* Serve as chief government relations officer for the organization
* Develop and implement appropriate budget policies and practices.
* Be creative in developing sources of revenue for the organization…both
dues and non-dues revenue.
* Take care of all CSA building and property-related issues.
* Stay abreast of association management trends, programs, and practices to
assure that CSA remains a “cutting edge” organization.
* Be alert to things that need to be done and, without being asked, take
initiative to see that they get done.
The position requires the
following:
1. A bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred;
2. Knowledge of associations and the work of association management;
3. Five years of association management experience or equivalent industry
management experience; CAE preferred;
4. Experience with budgets and financial management;
5. Strong interpersonal skills;
6. Strong communication skills;
7. A valid driver’s license and insurability on CSA’s driver’s insurance
policy.
