The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is seeking a dynamic Director of Finance to join the Finance department, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.

Key Functions:
Strategy
- Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting related to ADHA’s strategic and annual operating plans.
- Lead the strategic functions and operations of the division.
Financial Management
- Develop, monitor, and ensure effective financial strategies to achieve the association’s financial goals.
- Lead the ADHA budgeting process working closely with all divisions to produce an operating budget that reflects strategic plan and fiscal realities in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer.
- Oversee all accounts payable and receivables and invoicing for the organization.
- Direct the finance and accounting department to ensure that monthly and quarterly financial statements are accurate, timely, relevant, comprehendible, and are effective tools for the Board of Trustees, staff and members.
- Manage budget, organizational cash flow, and internal controls effectively.
- Partner with ADHA divisions by providing monthly financial reports and dashboards, and working to ensure budget goals are met.
- Provide the senior staff, the finance committee, and the board of trustees with a thorough analysis of the organization’s financial health; including budget projections/forecasting for the future based on financial planning.
- Ensure that short term financial assets are invested properly; taking into consideration ADHA’s need for liquidity, safety, and yield on investments.
- Oversee all ADHA Institute for Oral Health (IOH) accounting, including contracts and grants.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process for the ADHA and ADHA Institute for Oral Health (IOH), liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
- Ensure that ADHA and IOH are in compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advise management of actions and potential risks.
- Keep up-to-date on related technology affecting the finance division to increase efficiency, innovation and ensure compliance.
- Oversight of ADHA Finance committee. Work with ADHA CEO to ensure all finance committee management activities are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.
- Supervise annual audit process with third-party audit firm.
- Supervise and cultivate a high-functioning division
- Oversee knowledge management documentation to capture key division workflow.
- Coordinate with external financial entities on behalf of the company
Membership
- Serve as a strategic partner with director of membership of data analysis and forecasting of membership revenue.
- Oversee dues billing and collection activities for the ADHA tripartite structure
- Oversee collaboration and the strategic utilization of iMIS and other Finance related technologies
- Ensure finance team provides highest level of customer service to members and prospective members regarding membership dues billing inquiries.
- Ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy of membership data to other divisions for Tripartite support, advocacy efforts, membership marketing, and strategic communications
Meetings and Corporate Sponsorship
- Work closely with the meetings and conventions and corporate sponsorship divisions to ensure proper invoicing and tracking of funds received.
Qualifications:
Experience: Seven to ten years’ experience in accounting/finance with at least seven years supervisory and management responsibilities. Experience working with non-profit associations preferred.
Skills: Experience developing and managing financial and accounting policies and practices as they relate to nonprofit with emphasis on 501(c) 3 and 501(c) 6. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization. Excellent strategic and critical thinking skills that help link organizational finances and strategic direction. Sound problem solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis. Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -- programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds. A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Certified Public Accountant credential required. Master’s degree in business or related field preferred.
