The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is seeking a communications professional to join our team and assist in shaping a growing Marketing and Communications division. This position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications.
ADHA represents the needs of registered dental hygienists, dental hygiene students and the greater oral care community in the United States through leadership, education, advocacy, and the value of belonging to a professional organization. ADHA is in the process of forming a new centralized structure and organization for Marketing and Communications. Previously a more decentralized and outsourced function, this new internal structure will help to ensure a more cohesive and consistent brand experience.
Job Summary: The Communications Specialist is a member of ADHA’s Marketing and Communications team developing, supporting and deploying strategic stakeholder communications to members, educators, students, professional and industry partners, media, legislators and the public. The Communications Specialist will work to increase visibility for the profession and the ADHA, positioning the organization as a thought leader and ensuring messaging reinforces the ADHA’s mission, strategy and voice. This role will be a lead in supporting organization-wide initiatives, governance-related communications and scripts, media relations, social media strategy and operations, as well as content planning, development and dissemination via owned channels. He/she/they are an exceptional project manager with attention to detail, highly organized, and a strong communicator. He/she/they are a self-starter who is willing and able to roll up his/her/their sleeves and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment. The range for this position is $62,000 to $67,000; based on skills and qualifications.

Responsibilities:
Develop and implement communications plans and content generation/editing across channels and departments to increase awareness, engagement and/or penetration of ADHA programs and offerings.
Collaborate with external communications agency in the development of tactics and assets that support communications plans
Represent the voice of ADHA in responses to strategic member, partner and media inquiries
Create and manage association-wide social media strategy, calendar, content process and hands-on deployment via Hootsuite to ensure strategic, timely and balanced communications
Develop content for regular member digital communications which requires coordination with subject?matter experts across the organization, leadership and membership volunteers, curating and publishing editorial content
Responsible for assigned stakeholder segment communications: members, educators, students, professional and industry partners, media and the public; coordinate with communications agency or lead internal efforts to execute press or research releases and media outreach to reach target external audiences
Provide support for governance?related activities which may include board elections; speech writing, message development and training; presentations for presidents and board members; development of annual report and post?board meeting highlights for board report to stakeholders for website publication.
Support implementation of conferences and events through promotional and strategic messaging and copy, script development and editing, presentation development, video communication, and on-site coordination, speaker support and social media storytelling at live event.
Cultivate partnerships with internal colleagues as your clients to develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate strategic communications
Hands-on development and deployment of assigned communications via Higher Logic/Informz Digital Marketing Platform.
Develop and implement metrics to assess the effectiveness and impact of communications.
Review necessary marketing and communications assets and copy to ensure they meet style guide standards (AP) and assist in the development and oversight of an ADHA style guide and brand guide
Assist Director of Marketing and Communications in the development and execution of association-wide content strategy. Develop and manage the editorial calendar.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field
4+ years’ experience in marketing communications, public relations, journalism
Not-for-profit member-based association experience a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with or ability to utilize third-party email software (Informz/Higher Logic or similar software)
Proficient in social media development and deployment via Hootsuite or similar social media management system.
Familiarity with AP Style and resourcefulness to find answers
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent copywriting/content developing and editing are a must. Attention to detail is essential.
Strong verbal, analytical, listening, and presentation skills
Project management, communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills and emotional intelligence to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues, volunteers and the media.
Self-motivated with ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in teams
Skilled in articulating the vision and mission of the organization
Highly organized, creative, and self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong understanding of social media networks and their use within multi?audience communications programs.
Ability to adjust writing style to target audiences while following style guide standards
Awareness of media relations trends in the digital communications arena (media blogs, online publication formats, and social media).
Occasional overnight travel (up to 5%)
