The Massachusetts Bankers Association (MBA) was founded in 1905 to represent and promote the interests of banks and companies contributing to banks’ success. Today, 120 banks and 160 associate members operating in Massachusetts and New England comprise our membership. We help our members compete effectively in a rapidly evolving financial services industry through exceptional legislative and regulatory advocacy; high-quality services, training and education; research; media and public relations; and consumer financial education.
We are seeking a strategic and analytical chief financial officer to lead the financial management, accounting and tax activities of the MBA and its subsidiaries. This key officer manages a team and works with the CEO to create forecasts, perform cost-benefit analysis, and obtain funding for various initiatives. You will have significant input in the Association's investments, capital structure, and how the Association manages its income and expenses. You will oversee investments, accounting, budget, tax, and audit activities for the organization along with responsibility for financial and accounting system controls and standards. You will work with other senior managers and play a key role in the Association’s overall success. The ideal candidate will stay up to date with technology improvements, work to continuously improve accounting processes and be able to multi-task and work under pressure. You will join a well-established team and work to review our database and accounting systems to streamline processes and improve reporting requirements for the Board of Directors and the MBA team.

Managing the finance and accounting functions and ensuring that the Association’s financial reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
Administering financial operations of MBA’s insurance programs.
Preparing financial reports for the Board of Directors for monthly meetings, reviewing expenses, financial statements and projected cash flows with officer staff, explaining variances and projecting future revenue and expenditures
Tracking cash flow and financial planning as well as analyzing the Association's financial strengths and weaknesses and proposing corrective actions
Monitoring cash balances and interest rates to maximize investment opportunities of reserve funds and excess operating cash in accordance with the investment policy adopted by the Board of Directors
Preparing annual operating budget and annual voting dues and supporting the Human Resources function with budgets and reports
Coordinating timely dues billing, overseeing tracking of payments and collection of delinquent accounts
Acting as liaison with audit firm to ensure on-time tax preparation
Participating on task force groups that establish short and long-range objectives of the Trust's benefit programs
Establishing and organizing accounting systems and procedures; directing staff in timely processing and recording of all transactions including payables and receivables; maintaining supervisory control over all expenditures
Developing strategic plan financial data and 3-year forecast
Conducting accounting services for the Rhode Island Bankers Association including preparing annual budget and dues.
Managing technology, information systems and administration staff
Required Skills and Abilities:
Established track record in your field
Excellent management and supervisory skills
Excellent analytical and organizational skills
Experience building relationships, partnering with organizational leaders and managing cross-functional projects
Experience managing ambiguity, risk and changing direction of projects and strategies
Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems including Activity HD through Accounting Ware, Lubbock, TX
Professional experience with Microsoft Office suite, Freelance Graphics and Adobe
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; advance degree in business administration, accounting, or finance preferred.
Eight to ten years of experience in financial management required
Certified Public Accountant designation preferred
Prior Association or nonprofit experience preferred.
