The Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) – a 501(c)6 non-profit trade association with over 3,700 members – seeks an experienced marketing professional to oversee integrated marketing and communication initiatives including print, web, and digital. This is a full-time exempt position with a benefits package including paid time off, health care, and other benefits. Preference will be given to someone who can work at least parttime in IBPA’s Manhattan Beach, California office, but will consider a fully remote employee from anywhere in the U.S., assuming the right fit.
Plan and execute a wide range of internal and external communications, including but not limited to team updates, press releases, position statements, enewsletter articles, physical and digital marketing materials, social media posts, and event materials.
Prepare and disseminate IBPA’s key messages with creativity and impact, tracking effects and adjusting as needed.
Maintain IBPA’s brand standards through consistent design and messaging.
Match marketing and communications efforts across various channels including print, web, social media, and other platforms.
Draft and execute effective email marketing campaigns utilizing MailChimp and IBPA’s AMS (Association Management System), YourMembership. Ensure accurate list pulls and segmentation for different email marketing campaigns. Monitor engagement and drive funnel advancement.
Maintain IBPA’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) with the twin goals of encouraging broad engagement and increasing awareness of IBPA and its programs. This includes creating and executing all social media campaigns (organic and paid, including graphic elements) and responding to messages sent to IBPA via the various social media platforms.
Write, edit, and publish IBPA’s weekly enewsletter, IBPA Independent This Week, ensuring high quality standards. Upload and distribute enewsletter via YourMembership and make sure article coverage flows across all of IBPA’s social media channels.
Write press releases, position statements, member spotlight articles, program updates, and other public-facing materials that inform on IBPA’s and its members’ activities. Minimum of three (3) original pieces of content each week.
Pitch IBPA programs and initiatives to appropriate media outlets with the goal of securing media coverage.
Design and create marketing materials (print and digital) for IBPA’s programs and events, targeting key demographics with strong incentives and calls to action. This includes brochures, postcards, posters, fliers, advertisements, digital images, and other collateral marketing pieces.
Assist in the planning and coordination of IBPA events including aspects of large conferences like IBPA Publishing University; book award programs like the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award Ceremony; industry trade shows like the American Library Association Annual Conference and the Frankfurt Book Fair; board dinners; and other similar events.
Other duties as assigned by the IBPA CEO.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field.
At least 3 years of experience in a marketing or publicity role, preferably in a non-profit setting.
Previous non-profit association experience preferred. In lieu of association experience, must demonstrate an interest in learning about association management.
Previous book publishing industry experience helpful, but not required.
Demonstrated creativity in the development of marketing, public relations, and communications materials – both written and visual.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency using InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, or related graphic design software.
High proficiency using Survey Monkey, MailChimp, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office 365 products. Able to learn new software quickly.
Innovative problem solver able to manage multiple projects and priorities successfully.
Ability to communicate with others in a way that is supportive and caring, builds consensus, and resolves conflicts.
Ability to travel occasionally.
Telecommuting is allowed.
