NRPA is currently seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our Finance department.
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist works to advance NRPA’s mission and vision through a variety of payroll and benefits duties, including the precise and prompt processing of payroll and benefits, while supporting the HR and accounting teams and processing accurate and timely information.
The Payroll and Benefits Specialist must exhibit the aptitude needed to cooperate with a team while setting up strong relationships and interactions with all tiers of the organization. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist must also possess proven ability to handle classified information and act with the utmost level of uprightness every time. They must possess outstanding coordinating skills and dexterity in carrying out tasks with utmost attention to detail. This role will require reporting to the onsite work location in Ashburn, VA regularly.
Responsibilities and Duties
Payroll Processing (40%)
Gather and ensure that all information for bi-weekly payroll is entered and evaluated for accuracy, including commissions, bonuses, pay changes, etc.
Coordinate with managers on all aspects of timekeeping through payroll platform
Audit entries for accuracy prior to entering into payroll system. Ensure supporting documentation is accurate and approved.
Maintains system integrity and payroll accuracy by staying current with state, federal and/or system updates.
Gives suggestions on process enhancement to improve effectiveness.
Assists on and completes necessary HR and Payroll projects
Benefits Administration (40%)
Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS.
Provides vendors accurate eligibility information.
Assists with new hire orientations.
Provides onboarding support in areas of timekeeping, payroll, and benefits.
Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
Assists employees with benefits claim issues and plan changes.
Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA.
Responds to retirement plan inquiries from staff relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
Assists with the open enrollment process.
Administers tuition reimbursement program.
Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
Accounting Support (20%)
Provides bank lockbox support.
Processes remote deposits.
Assist with annual 1099 preparation process.
Assist in the maintenance of Accounts Payable platform.
Provides administrative support as needed.
High School Diploma + 3 years of continuing education or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree or industry certification equivalent preferred.
2-4 years or more experience in benefits and/or processing payroll.
Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Ability to pull, analyze and organize data into understandable reports that can be used across a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
Ability to think strategically about process improvement.
High level of accountability, accuracy, and efficiency.
Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred.
Travel expectations are minimal for this position.
