The Director of Education and Professional Development is responsible for managing and providing strategic oversight for all aspects of USSD education and professional development activities. S/He will ensure that the Society's activities are consistent with USSD strategic objectives and will provide oversight and support for the Education & Training Committee, Conference Technical Program Planning Committee, and all conference technical sessions, workshops and webinars.
S/he will work with the Executive Director, staff and volunteers to develop and implement strategies for addressing the professional needs of USSD members and industry.
Conference Technical Program
Work collaboratively as staff liaison with Conference Technical Program Planning Committee to identify technical content, session development, and overall technical program.
Works with Conference Program Chair on Call for Abstracts including abstract and paper management, through planning meeting and conference.
Ensures smooth delivery of technical program at conference including issuance of PDHs and CEUs.
Education and Professional Development Program
Works collaboratively as staff liaison with the Education & Training committee in carrying out strategic direction for development of all continuing professional development activities of the Society including live meetings, and online/digital products.
Works collaboratively with USSD’s technical committees to assist with identifying training content and SMEs.
Directs the effective and efficient planning, development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs and activities.
Work collaboratively to assess member needs, program viability, and development of successful business models to support educational goals.
Participates in the budgeting process for programs. Monitors performance against budget and assures course correction as needed.
Learning Management System
Manage the LMS learning experience, infrastructure, and functionality.
Maximize the ROI of the LMS by identifying additional ways to utilize system
Manage additional programs identified using the USSD Learning Center
Successful Candidate will Possess:
Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, education
Minimum five years progressive experience in nonprofit environment with experience working with volunteers and committees
Three to five years of progressive experience managing educational or training programs
Exposure to educational needs of civil, geotechnical, structure engineers a plus
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Successful track record of directing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to formulate clear, concise, thorough, and supportable recommendations.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
Proficiency in a Learning Management System, preferably CommPartners’ Elevate
About U.S. Society on Dams
United States Society on Dams is a professional dam engineering society founded in 1988. It currently has over 1,300 members comprised of dam consulting engineers, manufacturers, technology, dam owners, academia, federal and state government agencies. USSD's headquarters are in Denver, CO, however it has operated as a virtual organization since 2018 with all employees working remotely.
